• Be the first member of a newly formed product development team tasked with helping Global LT to build new products adding learning tools and experiences for our students and driving growth. 
• Help to define the roles, recruit, interview, and make hiring decisions for additional teammates. 
• Be responsible for leading the work to build and operate our products; deciding architecture/frameworks/tools, establishing coding guidelines/engineering processes, ensuring quality/security/performance, etc. 
• Have a key voice in deciding what products we should build in addition to how we should build them. 
• Seek to understand the needs of our teachers and students; actively by meeting with them regularly and passively by ensuring that our platform collects actionable data. 
• Be a student yourself by using our products to learn a new language. 

• You are widely knowledgeable about industry best practices, have well-informed and defensible opinions, people tend to follow your lead, and you're good at helping them to learn and grow. 
• You have extensive experience building scalable, high-performance, resilient, web-based, and mobile software. 
• You are an expert at debugging, with strong intuitions, high idea productivity, and a broad toolset that you use to dig into and solve any operational problem. 
• When you encounter complicated, inefficient, and brittle systems you can plan and execute strategies to renovate or replace them with something better while minimizing disruptions. 
• You have built, scaled, and maintained Ruby on Rails-based apps and you find yourself feeling like a curmudgeon when you overhear a conversation about some hot, new, JavaScript framework. 
• You also love that hot, new, JavaScript framework and know how to get huge value out of it along with Rails. 
• UI/UX may not be your strong-suit but you've got good instincts, can build elegant user experiences, and thrive when you can work with a talented designer. 
• You feel at home with an AWS stack (S3, RDS, Beanstalk, SQS, ElasticCache, OpenSearch, etc.) and can make it go a long ways. 
• You're comfortable with cross-platform or hybrid mobile frameworks (Cordova, React Native, Flutter, etc.) 
• You're willing to work with at least 4 hours of overlapping US East Coast Time.
